Wally’s Desert Turtle
In a year of big changes, one of valley’s most highly awarded restaurants continues its storied legacy. Following a “farewell season,” owners Michael and Nicole Botello bid adieu, and their daughter Madalyn is taking the helm at the institution that her grandfather Wally — founder of the legendary Velvet Turtle chain — established in 1978.
“I grew up in the restaurant,” Madalyn says, “This place is my second home, and I am honored to learn more about the business and continue my family’s legacy while maintaining the traditions that make Wally’s special to so many people.”
With her fresh perspective come boutique wines and an enlivened bar and outdoor scene, plus creative new twists on the eatery’s nightly live music.
What remains the same are stunning, Steven Chase– designed interiors and Wally’s elegant California cuisine, including beloved dishes like tender filet of beef, imported dover sole, and flavorful roasted chicken from familyowned farms that share the restaurant’s commitment to sustainability and organic fare.
On the sweet side, chef Francios Lucchese offers desserts such as Wally’s signature Grand Marnier soufflé and a rich vanilla bourbon bread pudding. A trip to the desert would not be complete without a visit to Wally’s Desert Turtle.
