Living with pain can feel like you’re not living at all, especially when pain interferes with your day-to-day activities. By putting patients first and using a holistic approach to pain management, Dr. Mersedeh Karimian of Palm Valley Comprehensive Pain Center aims to give patients their lives back.

“I treat pain,” Dr. Karimian says. “I don’t let patients suffer.”

This has been a theme throughout her education and career. She attended medical school to become an anesthesiologist, graduating at the top of her class and completing an anesthesiology residency. In anesthesiology, Dr. Karimian missed having personal connections with patients. It was then that she decided to pursue a fellowship in interventional pain management at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. This specialty was far more meaningful for Dr. Karimian, as she was able to alleviate her patients’ physical suffering while providing compassionate care.

Today, Dr. Karimian helps patients manage their pain and regain their quality of life through her private practice in the Coachella Valley. She offers multiple practice locations for her patients.

As an osteopath with a holistic approach to patient care and pain management, Dr. Karimian treats a wide range of acute and chronic pain issues. Common conditions that she treats include back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, endometriosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Most commonly, a new patient will see Dr. Karimian for an exam and imaging to better understand the cause of the pain. Then, Dr. Karimian works with the patient on a treatment plan that may include options such as medication, injections or physical therapy to relieve pain symptoms and also treat the underlying cause.

“I do my best to optimize each patient’s care and help patients understand realistic expectations,” Dr. Karimian says.

Identifying and treating the underlying causes of pain is of utmost importance to pain management, according to Dr. Karimian. “Looking at and treating the underlying causes of pain, and not just the symptoms of pain, avoids an outcome where patients are on medications for the rest of their lives,” she says. Through her holistic and compassionate approach, Dr. Karimian and her team help patients regain control of their lives.
